Who will Install the Line Guard or Pole Guard?
Critter Guard recommends the Line Guard and Pole Guard products be installed by qualified power line technicians as safety is the number one priority.
Is it legal for me to install the Line or Pole Guard on my own?
For Line Guard, this varies by locality. Typically, the homeowner owns the overhead service entrance cable from the transformer on the pole to the home. However, the electrical utility has “rights” to this line, such as rights of access. If in doubt, please check with your local utility.
For Pole Guard installations, if the pole is on the owner’s property, it is legal to install. If in doubt, please check with your local utility.
If you or your installer damage the line or cause service interruption, you will be liable. Critter Guard does NOT warrant against installation-related damages.
Do you sell your Critter Guard products internationally?
Yes, we offer our wildlife control products domestically as well as internationally. While squirrels are the largest cause of animal-related power outages in the USA, Critter Guard works exceptionally well in preventing damage from animals from international regions such as monkeys, snakes, sloths, rats and more.
Do your products work with buried lines?
No, our products only work with overhead lines. For more information on protecting buried lines, please reach out to your local electrical and/or telecom provider.
Will the power company install it for me on request?
Typically, power companies will be able to install our products on request, though there can be a waiting period and maintenance fee depending on your locality.
Do you offer installation services?
We do not offer installation services. We recommend our customers contact their local utility and ask them to install either the Line Guard or Pole Guard for you. We recommend this as safety is the number one concern.
If you or your installer damage the line or cause service interruption, you will be liable. Critter Guard does NOT warrant against installation-related damages.
How can I contact you if I have questions?
Feel free to call us at (573) 256-2110 or contact us for questions about the Pole Guard and Line Guard. We love helping our customers in any way we can in pest prevention to your home or electric power lines.
Are your products humane?
The Pole Guard and Line Guard are designed to be a pest prevention tool that deters squirrels from gaining access to power lines, transformers, and your home. With that in mind, typically squirrels and other animals will leave once they encounter the products.
Can I use your products for my business or commercial building?
You sure can! Though since the legality of commercial buildings differs from home installations, we would recommend getting permission from the city and owner of the building before installing the Pole and Line Guard yourself.
If a buyer is elderly can they typically get someone from the power company to install Line Guard and Pole Guard?
Yes. In many areas, local utilities are incredibly supportive of installing Line Guard and Pole Guard, because they know there is no risk of damage to the line or pole and having Line Guard or Pole Guard installed will prevent any future risk of animal-related outage in that location. We are aware that some utilities will charge for this installation service, yet others do not. This depends on your local utility.
Can a buyer install Pole Guard and Line Guard themselves for a commercial building, or are there permits or legal documents they would need to get from the city to proceed?
If the owner of the building has access to the line or pole, they could install themselves assuming they use a qualified electrician or line worker. Permit requirements vary by local community. If in doubt, please check with your local permitting authority.
Will the Line Guard or Pole Guard remove squirrels currently in my attic?
No, to get rid of rats, squirrels, or any other critters that are currently present in your home you will likely need to call an exterminator. The Line Guard and Pole Guard products offered by Critter Guard are a deterrent from those animals getting in. With that in mind, you will need to get rid of your current infestation, then our products will help keep them from returning.
How does the Line and Pole Guard fair against harsh weather?
The Line and Pole Guard are well equipped to handle harsh weather such as wind, snow, ice, and heat. Furthermore, Critter Guard has specially designed orifices to allow moisture to drain out, so they won’t freeze over. In short, the Pole Guard and Line Guard are extremely resilient products.
Will the Line Guard product fit on my Triplex overhead cable and wire?
Triplex overhead electrical service cable are a type of overhead cable and wire that is twisted around a single uninsulated steel or aluminum cable. If you have this type of overhead cable near your home, utility company, telecom company or commercial building, the Line Guard product will fit properly around and on your Triplex overhead cable and wire through a few adjustments.
The customer who took this video had their power line technician make these few adjustments when installing the Line Guard. The Line Guard rollers are designed to be cut back on each end. First, he widened the openings of the Line Guard rollers so they could better fit the power line. Typically, just cutting off ¼” from each end of the rollers, PRIOR to assembling the halves together, creates a large enough opening. From there, the power line technician wrapped the Triplex cable and wire with split plastic conduit and electrical tape at the point where the rollers would spin on the line, increasing the ease of rotation.
A note of caution – if the openings of the rollers are not cut back enough, the roller will not spin freely on the triplex. It is important to make sure the opening is larger than the total diameter of the Triplex. Typically, a 1.5” – 2.0” diameter opening is sufficient. However, the rollers can still be effective with even larger openings, up to a maximum of 3.0”.
