Prevent Mice from Nesting in Your Warehouse

Mice commonly nest in warehouses as warehouses often have favorable environments that include food, water, warmth, and abundant shelter. Mice in warehouses are especially common during the fall and winter months, typically from September to February, as they seek warm shelter from the cold.

For warehouses, it's critical to have a proactive approach to mouse control as an infestation can lead to financial loss from damaged products, cause structural damage to the building, and pose severe health risks to customers and workers.

Common Mice Nesting Spots

There are several key areas that mice prefer to nest in warehouses, including:

Insulation and Walls

Mice use wall insulation and gaps in the wall as these areas provide them with warmth and shelter. Mice will also typically tear apart soft materials, such as insulation to build nests for breeding.

Pallets and Equipment

Mice often nest beneath pallets and equipment since these provide shelter and security. Mice need space where they can hide from predators, and pallets and equipment in warehouses provide them with the dark, hidden spaces they need.

Storage Boxes and Shelving Units

Similar to pallets and equipment, storage boxes and shelving units provide mice with dark, undisturbed, and protected spaces for nesting.

How Mice Enter Warehouses

One common method mice use to enter warehouses is by using small openings like cracks in walls or foundations. They can also enter warehouses through incoming goods. For instance, mice can hide in pallets and boxes of products and unintentionally get transported into the warehouse by workers.

Another common way mice enter warehouses is by accessing the warehouse from the roof via the powerlines. Mice frequently climb and run along powerlines to reach a building’s exterior and then find an entry point.
